Take The Parent Survey!

By Pamela Price

UPDATE: I've decided to leave the survey up indefinitely
in order to capture parent opinions on this topic.

Four years ago, as part of my research into the working-homeschool family community, I conducted an informal online survey. The response provided eye-opening insights into the demographic.

A lot can change in four years, however. For example, anecdotally speaking, interest in working while homeschooling appears to be growing. Therefore, it seems like 2016 is a good time to revisit needs, realities and interests of today's working homeschool parents in a short, 10-question survey.

(Because who has time for a long-winded questionnaire, right?)

If you're interested in participating, you'll find the survey here.

If you've got more you'd like to say than the survey will allow, however, please feel free to drop extended remarks into "Comments" here--or shoot me a message via Facebook.

Thanks!

Great Article on Working While Homeschooling Up on the "Fast Company" Website

By Pamela Price

The topic of working while homeschooling and my book, How to Work and Homeschool get a nod over on the Fast Company magazine website.  The author, Laura Vanderkam, did a fantastic job!

A snippet:
Homeschooling has become increasingly popular in the past few years. The National Center for Education Statistics estimates that 3.4% of Americans aged 5-17 were homeschooled in 2012. While that’s not a huge proportion, it’s a more than 50% increase from 2003.

Plenty of families would like to try it. However, many are held back by the assumption that one parent (likely Mom) would have to stop working. But talk to homeschooling parents and you find that a number are attempting the ultimate "second shift": building a career while running a small school operation at the same time.

It sounds crazy, but it’s doable for people committed to the approach. Catherine Gillespie, a marketing consultant, says that combining the two means she earns a good living while "getting to give my kids individualized educations that really meet their needs."
